Lungo coffee is a softer version of espresso. Traditionally it is a ‘longer’ coffee, designed to use approximately twice the amount of water that is in an espresso.
A lungo coffee is a less intense beverage characterized by a larger cup size (100 ml up to 250 ml, depending on cultural habits) and often consumed with milk or cream.
The lungo has more of a bitter taste than espresso as more water is extracting the coffee’s flavor.
There are many ways of preparing a lungo:
*similar to an espresso, extracted under high pressure,
*by pouring hot water on ground coffee followed by a form of filtering or
*by boiling the water/coffee mixture for a distinct period of time.
More recently, single-serve coffee systems have gained in popularity.
